It seems as if you may have a VATS or Transponder key. These work in similar ways but with different equipment. A VATS key will have a resistor pellet that is visible on both sides of the key. A Transponder key will usually have a thicker head than regular keys because it has a signal emitter inside the key. Both keys would cause the problem you are describing because your car remotely starts with a key but not without. If you have a VATS key you will have to have it bypassed & if you have a Transponder key, you will have to install a box that either houses a key close to the receiving module or an electronic device that emits the same signal. I hope that helps.

Need a little more information. Did the remote starter ever work?
I'm going to assume that it did at one time. If that is the case, the wire from the remote starter control which is under the dash, to the ignition has come loose. Now fixing it is going to be a little more difficult without knowing what kind of remote starter you have.

Usually its the other way around. The remote car starter should be able to turn the car on but not turn it off. Try asking the people you got the car starter from or the car itself.
