Car Security Systems Deliver On Options

Auto theft has become such a problem in the United States that it is barely considered a headline maker any longer. When there is a desire to protect a vehicle from being targeted by the bad guys, there are plenty of car security systems that can help. The only problem is picking out the right system to fit personal style.

Just about every system out there has its share of pros and cons. Still, with auto theft numbers high, any type of security is considered better than none. In the grand scheme of things, any security system that can slow down the bad guys or alert them to the fact a vehicle will not be an easy mark can be quite useful. The unfortunate fact of the matter is that anything that can be done to make a car look and be less easy to steal can prove to be a very good deterrent for theft. Thieves generally want a vehicle that will only take seconds to get into and drive off with.

Some of the top system styles out there that can help get this job done include:

Siren or horn-based systems – Also known as an audible system, this type of car alarm will activate with loud noises coming from a vehicle if a connection is broken. Horns will go off, sirens will sound and lights may even come on. This type of system can include a number of different activation features, including those that signal the alarm if the door is opened while the system is armed. The basic idea is to generate attention toward a vehicle so would be thieves are either scared off or caught in the act. Unfortunately, the sound of car alarms going off has become so commonplace that many passersby ignore them. This can work against a car owner. Silent alarms – This type of system gets rid of the noise associated with an audible system. Instead of trying to scare off a thief, it sends a page to the car owner that a theft is in progress. Silent systems can be very useful for keeping the peace, but they can pose some problems for owners. They might, for example, respond to an alarm personally and interrupt a thief in the act. Steering wheel locks – These low-tech devices do provide a basic level of security. They can deter thieves by making it very clear that a car will not be an easy mark. They can, however, be removed by skilled auto burglars. Kill devices – Ignition immobilizers stop a vehicle from starting if the system is activated. These devices can be an excellent deterrent for theft in that they disable a car from physically operating unless the right key is put into the ignition switch or the right code is punched into the vehicle.

Car security systems are not foolproof devices, but they do make vehicles less intriguing for would be thieves. When it is time to fight back against crime, any preventative step is worth taking.

Is It Really That Necessary To Install A Car Security System On Your Automobile

Many people take minimal, if any approaches when it comes to car security. This is especially the case if they have a car that is cheap and old. However, even these cars can get stolen. In fact, the Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord, (two cars that are not all that spectacular in comparison to sports cars), are the two types of vehicles that get stolen the most by car thieves. Why would they still such average cars? It's because they can get money stripping them of their parts. They then sell these parts to various car manufacturers, who may not have any idea that the parts were obtained illegally. Then there are those who do know, as they are a part of the car theft crime ring.

So, with that being said, what can be done to increase one's car security? Well, to understand what will work best for car security, first consider what won't work. For example, the infamous car bars that are sold through infomercials mean nothing to a car thief. All they have to do to steal the car is cut away the bar then hotwire the ignition to get it to run. This makes the car bar form of car security a complete waste of money.

Another car security method that won't work are car alarms. To understand why this type of car security method doesn't do well, think about your own self when you hear such an alarm go off. Do you really think that a car is being broken into? If you're like most people probably not, because the annoying sound associated with most car alarms happen so often that it lost its original power. And for the rare few that do associate an activated car alarm with theft, they get distracted by cat prints on car. What does this mean? Basically, the car thief throws a cat somewhere on the car. When the owner or someone else sees the footprints, they think it's a cat doing it instead of a person. As they are returning to wherever they were, the car thief moves in and steals the vehicle.

What can be done to help increase car security, if the most common methods of car bars and car alarms don't work? The best answer involves getting systems like LoJack, that provide special tracking technologies to locate where a car is if it is stolen. LoJack specifically works through a separate device that is hidden somewhere in the car. When the car is stolen a person can check online to see where it is. From there the police can come after the car. If a person doesn't like the idea of their car security being determined by a device that could be found by the thief, they can consider technologies such as Onstar, where tracking is built within the car through a special GPS system.

Of course, if you do get LoJack or Onstar, there's still a possibility that the car could be stripped so fast that once the police get there, it's gone. However, if the thief didn't suspect that he was being tracked, at least justice can be done in the situation as he would be hauled off to jail. From there, he won't be a further threat either to the person from which he stole or towards the public in general.

Icats Car Security System

In the present era, car theft has become a key concern for many car owners, which even puts a great impact on car manufacturers. There are some car buyers who wish to buy a new set of wheels but change their decision and buy a used car just because they are afraid of the car being stolen. This directly affects the new car market and also ignites car manufacturers to introduce features and device that may save their car models from theft.

Keeping the security of cars in mind, Maruti Udyog introduced iCATs. iCATs, an acronym for intelligent Computerized Anti-Theft system’, is a car security system introduced by Maruti Udyog. The company has introduced this in its entire range of car models to reduce the possibilities and car theft.

Working of iCATs

iCATs is an electronically controlled device that mainly works on digitally encrypted codes. The system is tamper-proof and works on the principle of multiplexed communication, a system of simultaneous communication of varied information on the same circuit.

A transponder is inbuilt into the car keys along with an encrypted code and a unique electronic identification. This transponder digitally communicates with the electronic control unit of the car. When the car keys are inserted into the ignition lock, the transponder inbuilt in the keys sends signals to the control unit. On receiving these signals, the computer matches the secret codes and verifies the electronic identification. If these codes match with each other, the engine will ignite and if in case there is a mismatching, the car will not start. This in turn prevents the car from being stolen.

Standard Feature

The concept of car anti-theft device is not mandatory in India but Maruti still feels the need to make iCATs a standard feature across all its car models. The decision of making this mandatory is attributed to the growing numbers of car theft and lower rate of recovery.

Apart from Maruti Suzuki, cars manufacturers like Toyota Motors, Honda Siel Cars India Ltd and Ford Motors have also fitted a number of security devices like keyless entry, car alarms and remote-control locking compulsory in their range of car models.

How Effective are Car Alarm Systems?

When it comes to car security devices, the alarm system must be the cheapest and the easiest one to install on any vehicle. The purpose of this system is quite simple – it is programmed to go off and produce a high-pitched sound every time somebody tries to open the car, or even go near it for that matter, without turning the alarm off first. So if the alarm is switched on and you tried to open it, the alarm would go off. This is designed to discourage thieves to go near your car and steal it. However, how effective these devices really are? And do they really work as designed?

When car alarm systems are first released in the market, a lot of car owners begin installing them in their vehicles. But as time goes by, people are starting to **** them. For one thing, these devices disrupt the peace and quiet of a residential community big time.

Because almost everybody has car alarms in their vehicles, noise complaints are being filed left and right. Most people who will go in a vacation tend to leave the alarm of their cars on. And so whenever a cat or a dog goes near it, the sound would go off and they are two hundred miles away to turn it off. That’s only one instance wherein car alarms can be such an inconvenience.

On an estimate, false alarms occur 95% of the time. This means that the chance that you’ll catch a criminal with the system is only 5%. That’s a small percentage, compared to the inconvenience of 125 decibels worth of high pitched siren ringing in your ears. These alarms are so loud you can hear the sound outside your window. Just imagine car alarms waking you up in the middle of the night for nothing.

Now if 95% of car alarms are false alarms, why should anybody be concerned with it whenever they go off? Surely, a passing motorist would shrug off the sound thinking that the alarm isn’t what it really means. On a recent survey conducted, only 1% of all people who hear alarms going off actually call the police. An astounding 99% percent ignores them. With this fact, how can you be sure that car alarms still work?

So if you are considering a security system for your car, be sure to look for other options rather than a car alarm system. Car alarm systems cost anywhere from $100 to $1,000. You are going to save so much if you opt for a more effective system than this one.

But of course, if this is the only one that you can afford at the moment, you have to be sure that you send your car to a trustworthy shop to have the system installed. Some unscrupulous individuals can do a minor change in the system that would create a backdoor to it and leave your car vulnerable. You think that your car is secured. But all along, you have just sent your car to the thief without your knowledge.

Car Alarm Systems

Today millions and billions of people are investing in car alarm system. The reason behind the increasing amount of investment in alarm system is that these days the carazoo.com has become a major issue. Most of the car thieves are mastering the art of stealing and revamping the cars to start off their own business of dealing in stolen cars.

Car alarm system is the best way to reduce the increasing crime and keep our new cars protected. It is a system loaded with sensors, sirens and signals that gives a warning alarm in case of car theft. The basic version of the car alarm system comprises of a switch on the driver’s door that is wired to the siren. If anyone opens the door, siren will start wailing.

As India is coming up with new and high tech cars, the anti theft alarm system is also getting sophisticated and better in all aspects. The latest Indian cars are equipped with modern anti theft systems comprising various kinds of sensors, siren, radio receivers, auxiliary battery and computer control unit with a sophisticated and more secured output. Different sensors loaded at different places detect the motion, touch and pressure on the car. Siren is used to yield sounds in case of car theft. Radio receiver helps in permitting wireless control and keeps the owner informed. Auxiliary battery works as a replacement if the original battery is not charged up or functional. Lastly, all these working and operations of the system is controlled and monitored by the computer control unit.

Sensors are powered controlled devices that receive and respond to a stimulus. In modern car alarm system, there are mainly five different types of sensors that respond to various different stimuli or actions based on which part of the car is targeted.

Following are some of the most common types of sensors loaded in modern car alarm system:

Car-Alarm Door Sensors

This is the basic sensor that responds when a car thief opens any door of the car. Immediately, the car owner gets a signal. The sensor is either connected to a siren or to the interior lights. When the thief opens a car, switching mechanism built in the car door transfer electricity to the interior lights and alerts the thief.

Car-Alarm Shock Sensors

Shock sensors help a great deal in deterring thieves and vandals. If a car thief hits or moves any car, these sensors send a signal based on the kinetic velocity of the car. If the car receives a shock and feels an unidentified change in the intensity of motion, a warning alarm beeps. In some cases these sensors are also linked to the fuel engines wherein after detecting a drastic change in the intensity of motion, fuel engine automatically stops supplying fuel to the engine.

Car-Alarm Window and Pressure Sensors

These sensors are the main detectors for detecting broken windows. If a car thief hits the window of the car and breaks it down, these sensors detect the sound or the air pressure of the car. These sensors are connected to a microphone which in turn monitors the air pressure and in case of any variants, the air pressure fluctuation converts to electric current which is send to main controlling unit. In this way, specific sound will trigger the alarm and keep the thief away.

Car-Alarm Motion and Tilt Sensors

These sensors become functional when a car thief tows and drags the car to a safe place. Such sensors comprise o perimeter scanners that monitor any tilt, lifting and even slight movement of the car. Through these scanners it is also easy to monitor all the activities within a predetermined perimeter of the car park. Once the motion is scanned, the radio transmitter sends signal that are reflected by the receiver monitors. Similarly, tilt detectors are series of mercury switches made up of two electrical wires and a ball of mercury. This series of switches conducts electricity. In case of any car tilt or lifting, these electrical wires change the flow of circulation and warn the thief.

Car Alarms – Do They Work As A Deterant?

With increasing crime and a large proportion of it being targeted towards vehicles, car alarms have become a necessity. Most of the recent cars being rolled out of the factory have a standard alarm that is fitted in the car itself from inception.

The sad part of the story is that professional thieves have worked their way around these car alarms and have devised means of getting past them leaving you high and dry when you realize that you car has been stolen in spite of an installed alarm.

To add to the annoyance, car alarms have stopped being effective fro more reasons that one. These days no one gets up and takes action when a car alarm goes off since it is assumed that it must be an over sensitive car alarm that has gone off due to one reason or another.

The only reaction that these alarms solicit is one of annoyance, irritation and anger toward the owner of the car. These sensitive car alarms can be set off by relatively loud thunder, a neighbor mowing the lawn or an unexpected strong blast of wind that may shake the car a bit. Statistics show that 95% of the alarms that go off are false and leave the owner peeved and miffed at having invested in a useless machine. These car alarms are probably of any consequence only in the rural areas where the sound of an alarm is not a usual sound that one hears every day and discards as a false one.

In spite of all the car alarm bashing that we are up to, we will have to admit that there are indeed some advantages of having a car alarm fixed. One direct advantage is the fact that cars fitted with alarms attract a lesser car insurance premium because companies believe that they have a lesser chance of being made the target of the next theft. And to a large extent it is true and seeing flashing light on the dashboard may desist some unprofessional thieves from trying their luck with your car when there are so many others in the car park. Keep in mind that a talented car thief may still be able to outsmart the machine and be off with our car before you can even utter the words car alarm!

All in all given that it does reduce the probability of a car theft, installing a car alarm is a good idea. But reducing the annoyance that it causes you and your neighbors is also equally important. Firstly, try and see if you can find some alternatives to a car alarm. If not, then you may want to consider deactivating it during an impending thunderstorm. You could also buy a high-end car alarm and adjust it according to the sounds in and around your house.
